CAREER EXPERIENCE

2007 TO PRESENT: P&C CONSULTANT with Jacobson Solutions, Inc

(all of the following took place with one client, a super-regional carrier domiciled in FL)

October-November, 2007

Initial charge: Create a set of independently-filed endorsements to add to CPP policies marketed to general contractors, packaging several discreet coverage enhancements into an easy-to-rate add-on product.  Two earlier attempts had gotten bogged down in details.  Starting with a blank sheet in early October, with a goal of having the product approved by the MA DOI by year-end, completed the product and accompanying rating rules, gained approval of target agency group on their first review, and approval by MA DOI, with only one regulatory question.  Allowed for implementation in mid-November, in time for use with January renewals.  2008 premium production attributed to this endorsement: +$3.5 million

January-July, 2008

Researched laws and regulations necessary to implement Commercial Auto (ISO), Workers Comp (NCCI) and Umbrella (ISO) products in Arizona, Nevada and Utah, beginning 12/1/2008.   Research included requirements for all three states, including (but not limited to):

  • Proof of Coverage (POC) reporting for Auto and Workers Comp
  • Cancellation/Non-renewal rules for notice timelines, reasons and required wording
  • Minimum Premium and Billing limitations
  • Required wording and verification of bureau
  • Process to address AZ Workers Comp POC requirements for paper (card) reporting.

August-December, 2008

Researched laws and regulations necessary to implement BOP (proprietary), Commercial Auto (ISO), Umbrella (ISO) and Workers Comp products in Michigan, with a target start date for new business of 04/01/2009 .  In addition to research noted above for AZ, NV and UT, required to create a manual of rules for Workers Comp, which has an independent Workers Comp bureau.

September-December, 2008

Simultaneous with above Michigan project, directed to implement ISO Commercial Property form revision – coordinate between State Filings to arrange adoption of ISO circular and IT to add updated ISO forms (2002 edition) to forms library and schedule implementation by state.  Key factor was that no actuarial support would be available to update rates, etc., thus any such challenges from state DOI’s would need to be addressed accordingly.  States of MA and VA challenged our form-minus-rate/rule update.  Drafted rule exceptions that allowing client to also adopt updated bureau rules without requiring actuarial support for new (with that bureau filing) coverages.

December, 2008

As part of the overall strategy to update Commercial Property forms, and in response to the Florida OIR’s objection to our updating to a now-obsolete filing, researched rules and forms in order to prepare a “double-update” to bring client through two bureau filings simultaneously.  Saved substantial programming costs that would have resulted from reformatted bureau forms which had been updated for variable input, by creating independently filed versions of those updated forms, retaining original variable layout, with new language.
